I woke up this morning feeling like crap–and I know why–and I know how to fix it. Cut to me grabbing two Midol pills…
But then I realized, Midol has warnings on the side–that someone taking any other type of medication should consult with a physician before taking it. It’s a form of pain killer–which is my best friend this time of the month–but I realized that people taking medications…of any kind…they need to stop and think.
I myself am taking a very common medication for a serious condition that many people do not quite understand: birth control. (Honestly, have you looked at the numbers for teen and young adult pregnancies? Really…).
But that’s one type of medication, there are many others…my room-mate for example is one a much different medication for a more rare condition (no, really…it’s kinda serious). Problem is, the medication makes her feel like crap when she takes it, but directions say to keep taking it for a month to allow her body to get used to it. She doesn’t like to take it, and she doesn’t like putting “un-natural” things in her body–she isn’t always faithful about taking it…I wouldn’t be either if it made me miserable everytime I took it…..
It made me realize that a medication is a change in lifestyle–no matter how small or major the medication has in one’s life. It’s a process in itself. It’s a process to improve one’s life, to make one’s body healthier and improve the quality of life more. Whether it’s being sexually active and worrying a bit less of possible consequences, or just trying to go from day to day with a condition that has hindered the quality of life. Medication is a process that must be followed through in order for it to work.
I honestly can’t stress this enough, medication works IF ALL THE DIRECTIONS ARE FOLLOWED faithfully and not when it’s convenient, but to make it a daily part of your routine.
The process of improving one’s life can happen…if medication is the way to do this, it must be done faithfully and all directions must be followed.

One of the worst things you can do is not follow your medicine regularly. That is the best way to fuck your body up but good. Give it a chance to adjust to the medicine, otherwise it’ll never feel right.
I need to take a pill every day to curb my heart burn and if I fall out of that scheduling, I get some wicked pains.
